Skelmersdale Prize Band has announced that John Roberts has been appointed as their Musical Director.

Wealth of experience

A spokesperson told 4BR: "John, is a former principal cornet player of the band and returns bringing with him a wealth of experience and commitment. We are very much looking forward to working with him."

New players

The band also welcomes Chris Hibberd on trombone and Sara Orrell on solo cornet — both products of St. Helen's Youth Brass Band, whilst Bernice Coulson, a product of the West Lancashire Youth Brass Band joins on horn.

The spokesperson added: "The band have always been committed to encouraging young players to develop to their maximum potential. Many have gone on to the highest levels of the banding world and these three recent signings are again proof of our investment in local youth."
