There was a first class reminder of the great Edge Hill Railway Band in Liverpool on the weekend, led by Ian Brownbill.

A previously reported on 4BR, on Saturday, 16 members of the former Edge Hill British Railway Band, joined forces with current members of the Formby Band to march down the cobbled approach of the historic Edge Hill railway station.

Struck up

Once the band arrived at it’s destination they struck up the march ‘Senator’ conducted by Bob Dean, on the station platform, much to the delight of passengers, supporters, guests and the appreciative audience.

The performance was part of arts group 'Metal's' fortnight of celebrations to mark the 180th Anniversary of the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway Line4BR

The performance was part of arts group 'Metal's' fortnight of celebrations to mark the 180th Anniversary of the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester Railway Line.

Metal's Director, Ian Brownbill presented former Edge Hill member Roy Shaw with a certificate to mark his lifelong contribution to brass bands – and at the tender age of 83 Roy is still playing with Formby Band!

Present

Roy also received a copy of ‘Cory, Cory, Alleluia’ as a present to mark his contribution to banding with a personal message from Bob Childs.
