Going to the Rextreme

Trumpet virtuoso Rex Richardson is back in the UK and playing on the edge once again it seems...

International trumpet virtuoso Rex Richardson, who performed to critical acclaim at the 2010 RNCM Festival of Brass, will be making a welcome return to the UK in March when he is to perform the UK premiere of a new trumpet concerto, entitled, ‘Rextreme’.

Rex will perform as the featured soloist with the Docklands Sinfonia on in March.

Concerto showcase

American composer Jim Stephenson’s ‘Rextreme’ Concerto no.2 was written specifically for Rex to showcase his talent. The 20 minute work combines classical form with modern harmonies, sophisticated rhythms, and jazz influences.

Rex will be appearing in London after performing a series of European concerts.

Rex’s playing is out of this world. And for this piece, it needs to be. It’s not called Rextreme for nothingMD, Spencer Down

Out of this world

Spencer Down, Docklands Sinfonia’s founder and MD told 4BR: "We are honoured and excited that such a phenomenal talent is performing with the orchestra. Rex’s playing is out of this world. And for this piece, it needs to be. It’s not called Rextreme for nothing."

Gift

Rex added: "I couldn't be more excited about presenting this wonderful new concerto in the world's greatest musical city. To be able to do so with this fantastic young orchestra under Spencer Down's expert guidance — well, for me it's a gift.

I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I will!"
