A trio of new signings helped Felling to a podium finish at Brass at the Guild Hall recently.

Three recent signings helped secure a fine second place The Felling Band at last weekend’s Brass at the Guild contest in Preston.

Great start to 2011

Dick Stacey and Steve Perry who joined on soprano and first horn from Wansbeck’s Ashington Colliery Band and Clive Parker, formerly principal euphonium at Reg Vardy and Fishburn who came in on solo baritone all played their part in a great start to the 2011 season for the band under MD Steve Malcolm.

Band Manager Phil Rutherford commented to 4BR: "This has been a great team effort, but I would particularly like to congratulate our soprano and flugal soloists, Dick Stacey and 14-year old Kate Malcolm for their tremendous on-stage performances.

It’s a good result ahead of the Spring Festival at Blackpool in May when we next perform this test piece."

The band also took the opportunity to thank both Yvonne Malcolm who has stepped down from the soprano seat after 31 years to strengthen the back row, and John Oates who stands down from the band due to work commitments after serving on euphonium, tenor horn and baritone.
