Scotland to host NABBC conference

The annual convention of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors will take place in Whitburn in April.

The Annual Convention of the National Association of Brass Band Conductors is to return to Scotland this year.

The event will take place over the weekend of 1st/3rd April, at the Hilcroft Hotel in Whitburn, where delegates will enjoy two days of discussion and debate on a variety of topics.

Presentations

There will be a musical presentation by Davur Juul Magnusson, Principal Trombone Royal Scottish National Orchestra as well as a seminar on conducting techniques with Dr Alistair Mitchell, composing & arranging with Alan Fernie and a presentation by Iain Muirhead of Waalace Mutes.

Plenty of debate

There is sure to be plenty of tasty debate when the editors of British Bandsman and 4BR, Kenneth Crookston and Iwan Fox, host a brass band debate with delegates, as well as plenty of enjoyment with at the evening dinner with guest speaker Tony George.

Brass Band Method

Sunday's morning sessions include a presentation by Bruce Fraser on his new publication — 'The Brass Band Method' before the formal NABBC business is conducted at the Annual General Meeting.

On Sunday afternoon there will be a presentation of new music by Newtongrange Silver Band and a closing concert, which will feature the West Lothian Schools Brass Band under conductor Nigel Boddice, MBE.

Welcome

Participation in the Convention sessions, Saturday lunch and dinner, and teas/coffees is available to members of the NABBC at a cost of £35.00 inclusive, and to non-members at a cost of £40.00

Individual sessions are priced at £5.00 per person, however, entry to the closing concert is free.
