Angels of the North

It's not just Anthony Gormley's iconic statue that is creating an angelic impression with Felling Band.

Felling

Felling Band’s flugel horn soloist, 15 year old Kate Malcolm has added to the positive reviews her performance at the North of England regional contest received by collecting three awards at the recent Wansbeck Music Festival.

Hat trick

She claimed the Hollon Cup for her performance of, ‘Softly Awakes my Heart’, as well as the Oldgate Trophy for her rendition of Hartman's, ‘Rule Britannia’. Kate made it a hat trick by also winning the Chantry Cup for the highest mark gained by a competitor in the under 18 classes.

Kate is becoming a regular soloist...and will be featured in their next event, which will also see the premiere of a work for the band entitled, ‘Angel of the North’ by Gateshead born composer Andrew Mackereth4BR

Angel of the North

Kate is becoming a regular soloist with Felling in concert, and will be featured in their next event, which will also see the premiere of a work for the band entitled, ‘Angel of the North’ by Gateshead born composer Andrew Mackereth.

The work is dedicated to Andrew's grandmother Edith, and Andrew will be present to introduce his new composition and offer some insight into his musical inspirations.

Busy time

In what is a busy time for some band members, a small group of lower brass will soon be involved in recording a series of new and experimental works at the culture labs studio in Newcastle, with a live performance scheduled as part of the Durham Brass Festival.
