Bare Trees success

The talented youngsters of Bare Trees Community Band have enjoyed a great time of it at the recent Music for Youth Festival under MD, John Collins.

John Collins

After performing at the Royal Albert Hall last November in the Schools Prom, Bare Trees Community Band, under the direction of John Collins, returned to the Music for Youth Festival in Birmingham last week to perform ‘Malaguena’, the trombone solo ‘Blessed Assurance’ and Steven Ponsford’s ‘Turris Fortissima’.

Excellent programme

The performance was described as ‘…an excellent programme played with skill and musicality, technically brilliant and breathtaking…’ by the adjudicators Keith Hewson and Eric Tebbett.

Stylish soloist

They also noted 11-year-old Ellena Newton’s rendition of ‘Blessed Assurance’ which was stylish, poignant and consistent and accompanied with integrity, shape and beauty by the band, whilst 'Turris Fortissima' was brisk, stylish and committed and always controlled.

The fantastic commitment shown by the players and the entertaining programme, resulted in the band being presented with a special award for the 5th consecutive year gaining their ninth award in ten years.
