Lewis wins in NZ

John Lewis has won the 2011 New Zealand Champion of Champions.

The New Zealand Champion of Champions was held last night in Auckland. Adjudicators Steve Bastable, John Snowling and David Bremner unanimously gave the nod to the winner of the Championship Cornet section, John Lewis from Dalewool Auckland Brass. John played the test piece Endeavour by Helen Johnstone.

In an extremely closely fought contest, second place was awarded to the winner of the Masters Event, Trevor Bremner, with third placing going to Riki McDonnell on baritone.

There were other notably fine performances from Philip Johnston, Kyle Lawson and Roanna Funcke.

Amateur Cornet: Kyle Lawson, Brass Wanganui
Championship Cornet: John Lewis, Dalewool Auckland Brass
Flugel: Mason Elliot, Hamilton City Brass
Tenor Horn: Robbie Cargill, Levin and Districts Brass
Baritone: Riki McDonnell, Marlborough District Brass
Euphonium: Matthew van Emmerik, St Mary's Band Club (Australia)
Tenor Trombone: Mark Davey, Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass
Bass Trombone: Russell Boyle, Hutt City Brass
Eb Bass: Akito Iwai, Wind-Brass Japan
Bb Bass: Philip Johnston, Woolston Brass
Masters: Trevor Bremner, New Plymouth Brass
Percussion: Roanna Funcke, Woolston Brass
Ensemble A: Leopard Coachlines Canterbury Brass
Ensemble B: Woolston Brass
Percussion Ensemble: Leopard Coachlines Canterbury Brass

The New Zealand championships continue today with the band hymn and Test, and tomorrow the own choice events.

Harlow Brass Band
