Frank Renton announces the 2012 Radio 2 Young Brass Awards, which cover three categories: Best Youth Band, Best Soloist under 18, and Best Soloist 18 to under 21.

As part of the award, the recipients will perform in a special broadcast concert at the Royal Northern College of Music's Festival of Brass in January 2012, where the panel will make a further overall award.

We also hear one of the best bands in America — Brass Band of Central Florida, with conductor and trumpet star Chad Shoopman.

The band features some of Central Florida's finest brass and percussion musicians performing in the British brass band style, with a uniquely American twist.

They were recorded at last weekend's World of Brass in Concert at The Sage, Gateshead.
