Kirky sign up cream of Scottish playing talent

Youth injection boosts Kirkintilloch challenge.

Kirkintilloch

Ahead of the arrival of Philip McCann to start rehearsals for the Scottish Championships, the Kirkintilloch Band has been busy in the January transfer window, with a number of new signings.

Youthful talent

Calum Tonner, the principal soprano of National Youth Brass Band of Scotland, and principal euphonium Scott Findlater have both joined from Exchange Communications Whitburn Band, whilst Aaron Barnes also joins on euphonium from Co-operative Funeralcare and ex Co-op player Lucy Anderson, come in on baritone.

Both Aaron and Lucy are no strangers to Kirkintilloch as both started their playing careers with Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass.

Principal

Fiona Pitcathley joins on flugel and whilst Stephanie Mitchell, the current principal cornet of National Youth Brass Band of Scotland has made the move from repiano to principal cornet to lead the band at the Scottish Championships.

It also provides the mix of youth and experience that will hopefully see the band return to the top of the league in MarchKirkintilloch Band

Top players

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "The injection of some of Scotland’s top youth players means that Philip McCann will certainly see some familiar faces when he comes to Kirkintilloch. It also provides the mix of youth and experience that will hopefully see the band return to the top of the league in March."
