Foden's enjoy patronage

North West champion warms up for title defence with an enjoyable evening with the patrons.

Fodens

Foden's warmed up for the defence of their North West Area title with an enjoyable evening of music making in honour of over 500 patrons of the band in Sandbach.

Capacity audience

The capacity audience was entertained as Michael Fowles put the band through its paces with concert favourites such as 'Washington Grays', 'Ruler of the Spirits', and solos from Mark Wilkinson, Lesley Howie, Glyn Williams and Mark Landon.

Mark’s outstanding achievement of leading the band as principal cornet for the past 20 years was recognised with the presentation of a rare framed signed record of a 1941 picture of Harry Mortimer playing 'Alpine Echoes'4BR

Presentations

The second half of the concert included a number of presentations to players and supporters in recognition of their service to the band.

Former soprano player and librarian Granville Jennings received a framed copy of the latest 'Patrons 5' CD, which has been dedicated to him, whilst trustees Val and Alan Bourne received a signed framed photograph of the band as they were wished bon voyage prior to their move away from the area.

Player Awards

The band's Annual Player Awards saw Lesley Howie receive the accolade of 'Player of the Year' and Mark Wilkinson voted 'Bandsman of the Year.'

In addition, Mark’s outstanding achievement of leading the band as principal cornet for the past 20 years was recognised with the presentation of a rare framed signed record of a 1941 picture of Harry Mortimer playing 'Alpine Echoes', donated by Jimmy Charles.
