Doctorate honour for Wingates President

Wingates Band President David Kaye has been honoured by Bolton University for his services to the community.

David Kaye

Wingates Band President David Kaye has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton for services to the community.

The award

The award was made at the University’s recent graduation ceremony at Victoria Hall in Bolton. Also honoured in the same event were Bolton Wanderers footballer Patrice Muamba and entrepreneur Hilary Devey.

Partnership

David was the former MD of Krones UK Ltd, and his association with the band goes back over two decades when Wingates were booked to perform at a Krones corporate function. David’s determination and amazing organisational abilities secured what became one of the most beneficial partnerships in the band’s long and illustrious history.

David has been a stalwart of the local community in Westhoughton, and his involvement with the band continues to tie Wingates Band closely to it.

Wingates Band would like to place on record their heartfelt congratulations to David, and their thanks for many years of loyal and dedicated service to the band and the communityWingates Band

Honour

Talking to 4BR, David commented: "Victoria Hall is the spiritual home of Wingates Band, and to receive this honour on the same stage makes it incredibly emotional. I could scarcely believe it when I was chosen. I am a Boltonian through and through and it is a great privilege to have perpetuated, in a small way, some of its history."

Thanks

A band spokesperson added: "Wingates Band would like to place on record their heartfelt congratulations to David, and their thanks for many years of loyal and dedicated service to the band and the community."
