New generation set for Markham Main

The Markham Main Colliery Band is set to invest in its long term future.

Markham Main

Markham Main Colliery Band is looking towards the future with the setting up of a new training band.

Rebuilding

The senior band has been steadily rebuilding for the past 2 years, under the guidance of MD Bob Woffinden and with a bright future on the horizon the decision has been taken to invest in a new generation of young performers.

Made sense

Spokesperson, John Doubtfire told 4BR: "We already have a few young members and a few young people wanting to learn to play, so it made sense to set up our own training band.

There isn't a great choice of activities in the area for young people so this new initiative will have an added benefit of giving the young people of the area some focus for their energies."

Although primarily aimed at the young people of Doncaster and surrounding areas, they would welcome anyone who wishes to learn to play4BR

Consulted

The band has consulted various agencies in the area such as local neighbourhood police and the local council and will provide instruments on free loan and free expert tuition in a safe environment.

Although primarily aimed at the young people of Doncaster and surrounding areas, they would welcome anyone who wishes to learn to play.
