Welsh students looking for votes

The Brass Band Society of Cardiff University is hoping David Childs and a grand in cash will help them with their musical aims.

One of Welsh banding’s student ensembles has been busy recruiting members.

New members

With the beginning of the new academic year The Brass Band Society at Cardiff University welcomed recruits at the Student’s Union Fayre with the first rehearsal taking place on Monday evening.

Under the musical direction of Martin Humphries and Jeremy Meddows-Taylor, the band is preparing for an eventful year ahead.

Guest conductor

In December they will be welcoming David Childs as guest conductor to lead them through a weekend of rehearsals, culminating in a concert at the University, whilst the players will also be seen out and about the capital city raising funds for various charities over the Christmas period.

In the New Year they will make the trip to Lancaster to compete once again at the UniBrass — University Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, before ending the academic year with more local concerts in and around Cardiff.

We have many exciting ideas and events planned for the next 12 months and an extra £1000 would not only help us achieve them, but much moreJeremy Meddows-Taylor.

Grab a Grand

In a bid to raise funds the band is seeking a few votes in a local CPS Homes of Cardiff ‘Grab a Grand’ competition, which is offering a prize of £1,000 to one student society in Cardiff.

As a result new President and Principal Cornet, Tomos Evans, is looking for votes – and plenty of them!

"We have many exciting ideas and events planned for the next 12 months and an extra £1000 would not only help us achieve them, but much more.

We are the only brass band that can benefit from the competition so please support our movement and help us secure the funds! We thank you in advance!"
