Pendeen to build on Torquay success

A dream return to contesting sees Pendeen Silver unveil plans for further graded success.

Torquay

Weeks of hard practice certainly paid off for Pendeen Silver Band as they were crowned champions at the recent SWBBA contest in Torquay in the grass roots Ungraded Section.

Winter's Tale

The band’s long awaited return to the contest platform was a dream come true, with their performance of ‘The Winter's Tale’ by Reginald Heath gaining compliments from adjudicator Paul Holland, with a special mention for the MD, Darren Jenkin, for his musical interpretation of the piece.

It was a something of a family celebration too, as it was a successful debut for percussionist Jacob Kevern aged 12, who joined his father and sister, Jonathan and Charlotte, on the stage.

Well done

Commentating after the result Darren Jenkin told 4BR: "It was well done to everyone on a fantastic performance. There were some great solo contributions and an all round performance we are all delighted with.

I was especially proud of our younger players, Charlotte, Megan, Jack and Jacob – as they showed no nerves and were real stars!"

The band is intending to build on the success and has an ambitious 10 year plan to take them to the top of the Second Section4BR

10 year plan

The band is intending to build on the success and has an ambitious 10 year plan to take them to the top of the Second Section.

In January they will have an intensive contest workshop with Aldbourne’s inspirational MD David Johnson, who will be working to prepare the band for the Area Contest and the West of England Brass Band Festival.
