Grimethorpe claim Yorkshire Award

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has claimed a prestigious Yorkshire Award.

Grimethorpe in action

The excellence of Grimethorpe Colliery Band has been recognised by the hardest critics of all – the very people of Yorkshire, at an event sponsored by the BBC in Leeds.

Prestigious

The prestigious gathering of the great and good of the White Rose county at the swanky Hilton Hotel saw the band selected to receive the prize in the ‘Arts & Entertainment’ category of the Yorkshire Awards.

Whilst I was nervous about giving an acceptance speech I was also very humbled to receive the award in the company of war heroes and Olympic medallistsAndrew Lockett

Fantastic evening

Five players attended the event to accept the award on behalf of the band, with percussionist Andrew Lockett later telling 4BR: "Whilst I was nervous about giving an acceptance speech I was also very humbled to receive the award in the company of war heroes and Olympic medallists.

It was a fantastic evening and one that made us all very proud to be part of Grimethorpe Band."
