The organisers of the World Music Contest Kerkrade have extended the registration period for bands and ensembles wishing to compete at the event until 15th January 2013.

The organisers say that the decision comes in response to a number of bands who have expressed interest in attending but who wish to finalise their current 2013 contest diaries and funding arrangements.

A spokesperson stated: "Despite the often problematic economic situation in many parts of the world, WMC is delighted to confirm that currently the number of registered bands approaches the final level in 2009."

4BR understands that this includes reigning Brass Band World Champions Cory, whilst a number of other British and European bands are considering attending the event that attracts over 20,000 musicians and over three quarters of a million visitors.

The 17th WMC Kerkrade takes place from 4th – 28th July 2013. However, it was also confirmed that the Championship Section event for the WMC World Brass Band Championship is already full.
