Les Mis with a touch of brass...

One of the young stars of the blockbuster 'Les Misérables' has a bit of a brass band connection...

Dan Huttlestone as Gavroche

Those musical film buffs looking forward to a trip to the cinema this weekend to see the blockbusting ‘Les Misérables’ starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe may not be aware of its very small but highly significant brass band connection.

Gavroche

One of the young stars in the film is Daniel Huttlestone (above), who plays the character of the young street urchin, Gavroche.

Dan is the youngest son of Ware Brass principal cornet player Mark Huttlestone, and as can be seen from his picture, he already has the matinee idol looks to guarantee box office success.

The much anticipated film of the musical composed by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the 1862 French novel ‘Les Misérables’ written by Victor Hugo.

Dreamed a Dream

Jackman (Jean Valjean), Hathaway (Fantine) and Crowe (Javert) maybe the headline BAFTA/Oscar/Golden Globe nominated stars (although Russell Crowe won’t win any Ivor Novello musical awards for his singing for sure), but keep an eye out for young Daniel if you can – it’s not often brass bands can say they ‘Dreamed a Dream’...

The film opens in the UK on Friday, 11th January.
