Brass Bands England has released the details for the forthcoming National Youth Championships which will be held at the RNCM in Manchester a week on Sunday.

Forty three compete

In releasing the details, BBE is delighted to announce that for the second successive year, forty-three bands will be competing across the four sections.

Marathon

The marathon contesting day will commence with the Junior Section in the RNCM Concert Hall at 8.45am. Following on from this section will be the Beginner's with the Championship Section commencing at 5.30pm with the final notes blown not long after 9pm.

Meanwhile, the RNCM Theatre will play host to seventeen bands in the Intermediate Section which will commence at 9.20am with the results announced around 6pm.

Wright & Sparke

The bands in the Championship and Intermediate Sections will have to get to grips with the music of Dr Denis Wright and Philip Sparke respectively. The seven Championship Bands will perform Wright's Symphonic Suite 'Tintagel' whilst 'The Prizewinners' will form part of the Intermediate challenger's programme.

Familiar judges

The panel of judges who will make the all important decisions during the day will be familiar to the contenders.

Fairey's Professional Conductor, Garry Cutt and Simone Rebello will oversee the Championship Section whilst David Horsfield and Sarah Groake-Booth will get the chance to see what the Junior Section has to offer.

Keeping their eagle eyes on the players of the future in the Beginners Section will be Paul Andrews and Morvern Gilchrist. In the RNCM Theatre, Owen Farr and Mark Wilkinson will deliberate over the lengthy Intermediate Section.

The contest is expected to be a sell out and tickets need to be purchased in advance4BR
