The Newtown Band bade a fond farewell to one of its longest serving players recently, when the band said goodbye to Rick Hughes.

Call time

The EEb bass player has been commuting to Newtown for over decade, but with a move to Shrewsbury he has reluctantly had to call time on his Welsh connection and has joined Jackfield Elcock Reisen Band.

Loss and gain

Newton spokesperson Helen Bennett told 4BR: "Newtown Band has appreciated Rick’s wonderful dedication and commitment over the years, rarely missing a rehearsal or engagement. We wish him well as he continues his musical journey. Our loss is Jackfield’s gain."
