The City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) 2 Band has announced that after four highly successful years at the helm, MD Dewi Griffiths is to leave to take up the post of Resident Conductor the BTM Band.

Driving Force

Dewi has been the musical driving force behind M2’s outstanding success since its inception, with the crowning achievement of leading them to the Fourth Section National title in Cheltenham in 2011.

Alan Gwynant, Chair of the City of Cardiff organisation told 4BR: "We are sad to see Dewi leave. It is no mean feat to develop a new band from scratch from the Fourth Section to the Second Section in just four years. He has done a great job and we wish him well at BTM."

Ritter at helm

Dewi's last engagement will be the Gala Concert at the Dora Stoutzker Hall of the Welsh College of Music and Drama on 19th July.

Gareth Ritter will lead the band at the forthcoming National Eisteddfod of Wales in August and the Second Section National Championship Finals in Cheltenham. Dewi will continue in his role as principal cornet with Tredegar Band.

Welcome

Meanwhile, the BTM Band welcomed their new conductor: "BTM Band is pleased to announce the appointment of Dewi Griffiths as its new Resident Conductor. Dewi is well known to the band as he led us to a strong top 10 finish at the recent Grand Shield contest in Blackpool."

Sad to leave

Dewi commented: "I will be very sad to leave M2 after four and a half great years. I am leaving behind a lot of fond memories, but I’m looking forward to a new chapter with BTM and further developing my conducting career."
