Wingates

The remarkable 140 year history of the Wingates Band is to be celebrated on the BBC flagship programme ‘Listen to the Band’

Famous names

One of the most famous names in banding, the programme will be dedicated to its story – from its humble origins through to its many successes – which has included no less than seven British Open and four National titles, including the rarest of feats – the ‘Double, Double’.

Great names

The band has also been directed by some of the greatest names in banding – from William Rimmer to Richard Evans, whilst Frank Renton will also recall his association with the band too.

Book

The 140th anniversary will also see the publication of a comprehensive history of the band, entitled ‘From Bible Class to World Class’, a commemorative CD album, the focal point of which will be a remarkable work from composer-in-residence, Lucy Pankhurst, and a celebratory concert at the band’s ‘spiritual home’ at Bolton's Victoria Hall later this year.

Recorded at Media City Salford on July 7th, the programme is set to be broadcast on Radio 2 on Wednesday 28th August at 9:30pm.
