Deepcar youth development bears fruit

The young talent grown and nurtured by the Deepcar Band has really come of national age.

Deepcar

The Deepcar Band has been delighted to hear that their talented young solo horn player Paul Kirk has been accepted into the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Paul was taught to play at Deepcar from the age of 7 and progressed onto solo horn 3 years ago.

First player

Now, as an 18 year old, he is the first player from Deepcar’s teaching and training band process to be accepted into the NYBBGB.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It makes us all extremely proud and highlights the ongoing success of our long term training programme which has been in place for the past 14 years.

Over half of the players currently playing in the senior band have come to us this way and there is also a healthy number of players in bands around Sheffield and Barnsley area who were all taught to play at Deepcar and have now gone on to play at a higher level."

BBC talent

Another young player, Lewis Bettles has also been taking part in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition and has made it into the final five brass players on trombone, although he also plays percussion with Deepcar.
