Farr to lead horn seminar day in Brum

Owen Farr will lead over 80 delegates in a celebration of all things tenor and flugel horn in Birmingham later this month.

Horn star Owen Farr has been delighted by the response to the first Tenor & Flugel Horn Seminar which he will be leading at Birmingham Conservatoire on the 26th January.

Over 80 delegates have signed up to come along for what he hopes will be an inspirational day of teaching, performing and educating.

Response

"It’s been an amazing response," he told 4BR. "It also goes to show that there has been a real need for something like this to take place for some time."

He added: "There is going to be something for players of all ages and all levels — from new music to teaching tips and techniques, recitals and workshops. We will try and cram in as much as we can for what is going to be an exciting day."

Stars and students

Although Owen is leading the way with a series of recitals and workshops, there will also be the chance to hear Cory flugel star Richard Davies and a talk from Peter Maertens about his new book about the history and development of the tenor horn and plenty of great new music – aimed at all levels of horn performer.

Some of the country’s most talented students and recent graduates will also be involved with performances from the likes of Lowena Taylor, Eilsa Russell, Mike Franey, Lara Jones and Hannah Drage, whilst new music will come from the pens of talented composers such as Lucy Pankhurst Christopher Bond and David Harrington.

Exciting

"This is perhaps the most exciting aspect of the day," Owen said. "We want to make this an inclusive event, one that helps players of all levels."
