Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced that star horn player William Rushworth has resigned from the Yorkshire band.

Missed

Speaking on behalf of the band, Principal Conductor &d Director of Music Dr Robert Childs told 4BR: "I've known William for a long time and his high quality of playing will be sadly missed."

Enjoyed it

William (above left) commented on his departure by adding: "When I joined Grimethorpe it was my intention to stay for 12 months. I’ve now done that and enjoyed it immensely.

Nevertheless having conducted Grimethorpe on many occasions during that period my appetite has been whetted to do more. I’ve been asked to conduct at the Yorkshire Regional Championships and don’t want to miss the opportunity to do so."

Spend time

He added: "I also want to spend more time with my family in Yorkshire and more importantly, in the sunshine at our home in the south west of France."

Ventures

Nigel Dixon, Band Manager also added: "We all wish William the best in his new ventures. His last performances with Grimethorpe Band will be at Brighton and Aylesbury this weekend."
