Advert: County Instruments

The brilliance of the Ray Farr Signature Raw Brass flugel horn is making an immediate impact on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Ray Farr flugel

The brilliance of the Ray Farr Signature Raw Brass flugel horn is now being heard extensively on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, thanks to its unique design, superb build quality and amazing tonality.

New York

And it’s not just in competitive brass bands, hot jazz clubs and orchestral ensembles that it is being played either.

Recently, Douglas Berry, who plays flugel for the New York Salvation Army Staff Band and has his own Christian Rock Band, Unbound, requested a trial of the Ray Farr Signature Raw Brass flugel.

He was so impressed that almost immediately after receiving the instrument he asked to purchase it.

Skegness

Meanwhile, at the recent Butlins Mineworkers Championship in Skegness a player who tried the instrument out on the trade stand on the Saturday afternoon came back the following morning brandishing a cheque to buy one there and then!

Not unusual

"It’s not that unusual sequence of events for County Instruments," said Chris Waters, the flugel’s highly respected design engineer.

"When it first happened with a reviewer for the renowned jazz magazine, Jazz Wise, it did take us by surprise, although now we come to expect it as once a player has tried it for themselves. It just makes such an impression!"

In an e-mail to County Instruments after receiving the instrument Douglas Berry wrote back: "I’m really loving the horn, it sounds so great!"

Acid test

Tony Rodwell of County Instruments says the acid test of the adherence to quality is making a huge impression on players from all musical genres.

"It’s such a flexible and responsive instrument that as soon as players pick it up they know they have the ideal flugel horn to perform on in their hands. Nothing is better than that."

When it first happened with a reviewer for the renowned jazz magazine, Jazz Wise, it did take us by surprise, although now we come to expectDesign engineer, Chris Waters
