German renaissance at Folkwang

Roger Webster and Philippe Schwartz to help head British style brass band renaissance at German University.

Roger Webster

After a break of a year and a half, the British style brass band at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen, Germany has reformed and will welcome star players Roger Webster and Philippe Schwartz to appear in concert later this week.

Workshops

As one of Germany's leading Musikhochschule, the University is delighted to welcome Roger and Philippe for three days of workshops supported by the Buffet Group (Besson) culminating in a concert by the band with the 'stella duo' as guest soloists.

Fantastic tradition

Conductor and Professor of Trombone and Brass Ensemble, Chris Houlding told 4BR: "With such a fantastic tradition of brass playing here in Germany it is great that the British style brass band is becoming increasingly popular with over twenty five bands and a flourishing competition scene.

For us the brass band still remains one of the most effective and challenging ways to enhance ensemble skills which is crucial to our training."
