The Land O’ Burns entertainment contest will take place on Saturday 23rd August, at Troon Concert Hall with organisers inviting bands to apply for the opportunity to take part in the popular event.

20th time

Organised by the Dalmellington Band, it will be the 20th time the contest has taken place, with the entries open to bands in the Championship, First, Second and Third Sections.

The winning band will take home a first prize of £3,000, with £1,200 and £600 to the podium finishers.

The fourth placed band pockets £450, with the best First, Second and Third Section finishers gaining £350, £300 and £275 respectively. There is also a separate entertainment prize of £500 and numerous individual awards.

20 minute programme

Each band will be required to produce a programme of 20 minutes playing time, whilst in line with the contest’s innovative entertainment policy bands can perform two pieces of music using any instrumentation they wish — from bagpipes to Peruvian nose flutes.

In addition to the fantastic music that will be on show there will also be a free youth workshop featuring celebrated percussionist Simone Rebello.

Closing date

The closing date for entries is 7th June and organisers are hoping that once again the contest will attract band from both sides of Hadrian’s Wall and even Offa’s Dyke!

The winning band will take home a first prize of £3,000, with £1,200 and £600 to the podium finishers4BR
