Newtown sends out last call

The last call for entries has gone out for the popular Newtown march and hymn tune contest.

Cornets

Bands intending to enter Newtown (Mid Wales) March & Open Air contest are being reminded to get their entries in fast before the official closing date on Thursday 1st May.

Quick march

Newtown is set in the heart of beautiful Mid Wales, and the contest will feature a ‘Quick March’ along the town’s High Street and into the Newtown Hall Park where each band will perform a ‘Contest March’, ‘Hymn Tune’ (two verses from the red book) and another piece of music of its own choice.

Bands will also be judged on deportment and there will be closed music adjudication.

Entry

Entry is restricted to bands nationally graded in the Second, Third and Fourth Sections, alongside non-registered bands and youth/training bands.

There is a generous prize fund of £1,000 to play for as well as a number of trophies.

No registration

A spokesperson told 4BR: "There is no registration and the contest will be run on similar lines to the Whit Friday marches. This is not only a competition but a fun day out for all the family!"
