The Scottish Brass Band Association has announced that ‘Cantata’ written by its Development Officer Andrew Duncan, will be set as the test piece for the Scottish Open contest in November.

Commissioned

Commissioned by Foden’s Band, it was recently premiered by them at the Bury St Edmund Festival, and will be available to competing bands from The Music Company publishers at: www.themusiccompanyshop.com

Championship Section bands wishing to take part in the contest supported by Besson Musical Instruments at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 29th November, are now being asked to contact SBBA to register their participation at: www.sbba.org.uk

Further information regarding the contest can be obtained from SBBA Vice-President and Events Manager, Carrie Boax on completion of the entry form at: chboax@gmail.com

Welcome

Carrie told 4BR: "Following the highs of the European Championships, we look forward to welcoming our friends from near and far again to Perth.

We are very excited about this year's set piece for the Scottish Open, and as an extra dimension for the participating bands, the composer will be one of three adjudicators at the contest."

Sound files

Andrew Duncan also announced that electronic sound files of the work will be made available on the publisher’s website from June 1st.

With the deadline set for the 15th June for entries, SBBA revealed that eight participation enquiries from English, Welsh and Norwegian bands have already been received.
