The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is offering an amazing opportunity for ambitious players to develop their high level performance skills with an intensive five day course in Glasgow this August.

World renowned

Led by world renowned virtuosi Ian Bousfield, John Wallace CBE and John Logan, the summer school course based at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland aims to develop in the individual brass player the importance of a whole mind and body approach to communicating music through their instrument.

Each player will be supported fully to achieve a greater awareness of the physical aspects of playing a brass instrument, deepen their understanding of musical communication skills, broaden their knowledge of the repertory, and enhance their experiences of ensemble playing skills and gain greater confidence in performing for an audience

Distinctive quality

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The summer school which will run from August 4th to August 8th, is distinctive in relation to the quality of coaching that will be provided.

We are seeking a wide variety of brass players to join us for this outstanding course and we hope to welcome brass instrumentalists from around the world to join us in Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland."

Intensive

Applicants should be at least 17 years of age and have reached a minimum playing ability of ABRSM Grade 8 or equivalent in order to fully benefit from this intensive summer school.

Students will be required to submit a CD/DVD for consideration by the course leader in advance of being accepted to the summer school course.

Students are asked to record and send a solo piece of no longer than two minutes duration, which they feel demonstrates their strengths as a brass performer.

Advanced

A list of pieces, studies and music from the orchestral repertoire will be provided to each student accepted onto the summer school well in advance of the course start date.

These should be prepared as fully as possible to allow teachers to work with them on advanced technique and musicality.
