One of the world’s great tuba players will be making a welcome musical raid on Perth this year with the news that Eirik Gjerdevik will be the featured guest tutor and soloist with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland.

The Viking

The Norwegian virtuoso, affectionately known as ‘Eirik the Viking’ due to his huge size and musical personality, will join MD Russell Gray and tutors of the Senior, Reserve and Children’s bands on their week long courses in Perth and Sterling.

The courses start on 26th July, and will be the featured soloist with the three ensembles at Perth Concert Hall on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd August.

World's finest

Eirik Gjerdevik has long been regarded not just as one of Scandinavia’s and Europe’s finest tuba players, but one of the great exponents of the instrument in the world.

With a strong brass band background he currently works on a freelance basis around the globe and is a Yamaha artist.

He is also a much sought after tutor and teacher, working in recent years as a lecturer at Salford University, Manger folkehogskule, Brisbane Conservatoire and Sydney Conservatoire.

Eirik’s latest tour was to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in 2013.
