UniBrass links with Cory for further education boost

The UniBrass Championships will link up with Cory and Besson Instruments to help provide a year on year education boost at their annual event.

The UniBrass University Brass Band Championship has announced that they are to start a multi-year education programme with National Champions Cory, sponsored by Besson Instruments.

Promote

Hosted at the University of Warwick, starting in February next year, members from the world’s number 1 ranked band will run brass workshops for children and adults to promote and improve musicianship within the local area and at the university itself.

The news is a further boost to the profile of the annual UniBrass Championship, which has quickly established itself as an integral part of the banding calendar in the UK, thanks to its unique blend of music making and enjoyment which has proved to be a highly successful attraction for higher education bands from all over the UK.

Latest venture

This latest venture aims to build on the success of last year’s workshop programme and will see the addition of an Adult as well as Parent & Child workshop class to supplement the current, highly successful Children’s Workshop.

All three workshop classes will culminate in a performance at Butterworth Hall as part of the UniBrass event. Cory will run the workshops as part of their award winning Cory Academy programme, with the collaboration funded by Besson Instruments.

Fantastic day

UniBrass Chair, Alexander Parker told 4BR: "Working with Cory is such an honour and will make the workshops a fantastic day.

I’m really looking forward to UniBrass and Cory doing great things together in the coming years — inspiring people, both young and old to continue playing brass instruments."

He added: “With the help of Cory and Besson, UniBrass hopes to continue to inspire the creativity of the brass band movement as a whole.”

Ambition

Cory MD, Philip Harper told 4BR that he was equally as excited by the innovative project: "We are very pleased to be linking up with the UniBrass organisation which has shown real ambition in the launch and development of its event in the past few years.

This is a natural extension of our current Cory Academy outreach activity, and we look forward to seeing this partnership develop in the years to come."

Support

He added: "We would of course like to acknowledge the support of Besson Musical Instruments which is one of Cory Band's most important commercial partners, and whose instruments are one of the main reasons we have been able to maintain our position at the top for so long."
