Cardinal blessing at Reg Vardy

Reg Vardy give heir blessing to the new Oldroyd Cardinal range of instruments from Geneva.

Cardinal

Reg Vardy, the reigning North of England Regional champion, has become one of the first elite top flight bands to purchase the new ‘Oldroyd Cardinal’ range from Geneva Instruments.

Input

The state of the art, custom instruments, are designed and built to the highest possible standards, with careful appreciation of the input from each customer.

The ‘Oldroyd Cardinal’ features a new bell and leadpipe configuration, along with other new design features to give the range a brand new feel, tone and response.

Key

Key to each instrument’s unique specification is the consultation with Geneva Instruments founder and head of instrument design, Tim Oldroyd, which sees immense attention given to the specific requirements, instrument performance, feel and the final aesthetics that make each individual instrument unique to each player.

How good

Reg Vardy’s solo euphonium player Paul Robinson (above right) has been impressed: "Having played the superb Geneva ‘Symphony’ euphonium for the past few years and being so happy with the instrument I wasn’t initially convinced there was a need for an additional model.

However, when I received the new ‘Cardinal’ my first impression was how good the instrument looked and how solid and robust it felt. It produces such a big and rich sound throughout the whole range and it is effortless to play."

New standard

He added: "This new design really does set a new standard. In the short time that the horn and euphonium sections have also had the ‘Oldroyd Cardinal’ instruments the entire band has been impressed with sound and performance of the new instruments."
