Gardening leave for Duguid

Welwyn Garden City make a musical link with Redbridge MD Alan Duguid.

Welwyn

Welwyn Garden City Band has announced that they have appointed Alan Duguid as their new Professional Conductor. Alan will work alongside MD Derek Glendinning to develop the band.

The Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama graduate won the Scottish heat of the NABBC Conductor Competition in 2001, going on to represent Scotland at the NABBC finals in 2003.

Redbridge

More recently, he reached the quarter final of the 2011 European Conductor Competition in Montreux and led Regent Brass to the London & Southern Counties area title in 2013. Alan is currently the Musical Director of Redbridge Brass.

Delighted

He told 4BR: "I’m delighted to take up the position with a band that has such a large amount of potential.

I have really enjoyed my first couple of rehearsals and look forward to helping Welwyn regain their First Section status as soon as possible."

Exciting time

Band Chairman, Kate Douglas, added: "This is a very exciting appointment in the band's 80th anniversary year.

Alan's excellent conducting skills and positive energy are just what we need to move up the rankings and back into the First Section."
