Yorkshire Youth look for double boost in 2015

A new generation of Yorkshire Youth Brass Band players are to be inspired by the Black Dyke 'Double'...

Yorkshire Youth Brass Band

Following the annual departure of a number of members to start careers in work or extend their educational studies, the Yorkshire Youth Brass Band is now looking to welcome a new intake of players for their 2014/15 courses.

Double boost

And as a part of the Black Dyke organisation, the band is also hoping to enjoy a ‘Double’ boost under the direction of MD Professor Nicholas Childs, with ambitious young players aged between 11 -21 and in full time education, invited to take part in a number of up-coming workshop day courses.

Stars

A spokesperson told 4BR: “The youngsters will get to work with Queensbury stars such as Zoe Hancock, Gary Curtin and Richard Marshall, as well as rehearsing new, exciting music and making friends from the banding movement all across the north of the country.

The band, which also enjoys support from Besson Musical Instruments, is also as great musical stepping stone, with a number of players in the past being asked to play with Black Dyke in concert, and some even joining on a permanent basis and going on to become outstanding players with the world’s most famous band.”

Trophy inspiration

It’s also hoped that the historic ‘Double’ effect will also play a strong part in inspiring the young players — with the iconic British Open Gold Shield and huge silver National Championship trophy on display at events and workshops.

One of the many highlights of 2015 will be Black Dyke's 160th Anniversary concert in Huddersfield Town Hall on Sunday 12th July, where the past, present and future players will be showcased together in a massed band finale.

Highlights

During the year the Yorkshire Youth Band will also perform at the Black Dyke Brass Festival on Sunday 17th May.

The event which welcomes audiences and players from all around the UK (and further afield) to Leeds Town Hall, will see a morning of workshops followed by an afternoon concert.

The youngsters will get to work with Queensbury stars such as Zoe Hancock, Gary Curtin and Richard Marshall, as well as rehearsing new, exciting musicspokesperson

One day courses

The one day courses will be held at the Robert Wilkinson Primary School near York on the following dates:

Sunday November 16th
Saturday 7th February
Sunday 22nd March
Sunday 17th May
Sunday 12th July
Sunday 1st November
