Skelmanthorpe take Union entertainment prize

The Skelmanthorpe Prospect Band were the crowd pleasers after 15 rounds of great concerts at the Unite the Union Band Club this year.

Phil Garlick

The Unite the Union (City of Sheffield) Band Club recently hosted its annual prize-giving concert, which acknowledges the efforts put in by the 15 bands who this year have presented highly entertaining concerts programmes at the club.

Most Entertaining

The winner of the ‘Most Entertaining Band’ went to Skelmanthorpe Prospect Band under their MD Philip Garlick (above), whilst the hard fought ‘Best Soloist’ prize went to Scott Dawson from Emley Band, who reprised his prize-winning solo of ‘Grandfather’s Clock’ with Unite the Union Band on the night — playing the final variation left handed!

The award for ‘Best Musical Director’ went to Damien Wileman of the Cornerstone Band, whilst the award for ‘Services to the Band Club’ went to Edward Knowles in recognition of his hard work and dedication in organising the last eight years of band club concerts.

Looking forward

Due to other commitments, Edward is passing the organisational baton over to Andrew Horton.

Unite the Union Band is already looking forward to the 2015 series of concerts, which is due to start on Sunday 25th January with Thoresby Colliery Band.
