It has been announced that the acclaimed Carlton Main Frickley Colliery principal cornet Kirsty Abbotts, has become an official Yamaha Neo artist, following the award winning player’s recent trip to the manufacturer’s atelier in Hamburg.

Lyrical performer

Long regarded as one of the UK’s leading cornet soloists, Kirsty will perform on a Yamaha Neo cornet with yellow brass bell — something Yamaha believe will further enhance her renowned tonal qualities as a lyrical performer.

The former pupil of another world renowned Yamaha artist Phillip McCann, Kirsty has cemented her reputation over many years of outstanding performances — from Shipston Town Band to the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, Sellers International and more recently with Carlton Main Frickley.

Dedication

Her performances have won her admirers all over the brass band world — as well as numerous individual solo and instrumental awards, whilst her dedication and commitment to the band’s she has played for has also gained her immense respect from her playing peers.

Loved it

Speaking about why she chose the Neo cornet, Kirsty told 4BR: “From the first time of playing the yellow brass Neo cornet I instantly loved it.

The cornet has such a clear sound throughout all ranges – enhanced by a beautiful, rich tone complete with exceptional tuning and intonation. It is easily the most responsive and versatile cornet I have ever played.”

Delighted

A delighted Thomas Lubitz, Yamaha’s R&D Manager in Europe added: “Kirsty has such a beautiful sound and is one of the most respected cornet players in the brass band world.
