Elf service not under threat at Silkstone

A wonderful Old Silkstone Christmas concert showed locals that the elf service is in fine fettle...

Noel Fest

The ‘Very Merry Christmas Band’ — also known as Old Silkstone, entertained a packed festive audience in Dodworth in December, with the band’s very own Santa’s elves gathered together to put on a great evening for everyone who came along.

Openslay

The event was hosted by chief Elf ‘Wonorse Openslay’ and was led by guest conductor Sam Fisher, whilst in the playing ranks was a trombone playing turkey with a Christmas tree on his head!

The local Musical Theatre Singers were also on hand to perform some Christmas classics with the band, including the now obligatory rendition of ‘Fairytale of New York’, whilst the players certainly enjoyed themselves during a game of ‘giant pass the parcel’ and plenty of other party games to get everyone in the festive spirit.

Little different

A band spokesperson told 4BR: “Everyone really enjoyed the night. We like to try and do something a little different, so our concerts are remembered as fun nights, and something people will want to come along to again in the future."

Attention

They added: "We have some more entertaining and fun events lined up for 2015, but for now we are now turning our attention to the more serious aspect of winning the Yorkshire Area title in Bradford.”
