The popular Euro Brass contest held each year in Drachten in The Netherlands is to be renamed the Dutch Open Brass Band Championship (DOBC).

The event will take place under its new identity on June 13th as an open competition for Championship, First and Second Section contenders at the De Lawei theatre in Drachten, in the heartland of the Dutch brass banding.

New format

A spokesperson told 4BR: “It was felt that Euro Brass needed to be refreshed, and with consultation with competing bands a new format has been put in place under a new title.

We wish to carry in the tradition of welcoming bands from all over Europe — especially from the UK, to join in competition with rivals from Norway, France, Germany, Belgium and further afield.

Where Euro Brass focused on an entertainment programmes, the new format gives bands the opportunity to play a chosen contest piece in addition to concert works.”
