Abertillery continues on 2015 resurgence

New players and a long term desire to succeed is giving Abertillery Town Band a huge boost.

Abertillery

Abertillery Town Band is currently enjoying the musical fruits of hard work and a long term aim to secure its future through young player development.

Progress

New players have joined to help cement the contest progress the band has made under recently appointed MD, Josh Ruck.

While Ken Lewis and Colin Jones return to the band from neighbours Ebbw Valley Brass on cornet and BBb tuba respectively, students Josh Fish and Michael Edwards have also returned to complete the percussion section ahead of the Welsh Regional Championship in Swansea in March.

Welcome

A band spokesman told 4BR: “We’re delighted to welcome Ken, Colin, Josh and Michael back to us, especially as we are now enjoying having a full band around the stands as we continue to work hard under our new Musical Director.”

Look forward

They added: “The start of 2015 has been a tough one with the news that the hard working Nigel Bard has had to take a break from playing with the band.

However, his frequent trips to the bandroom have been a delight to all of us, and we look forward to him returning to his rightful seat in the trombone section very soon!

Colin Jones has agreed to play solo trombone in Nigel’s absence, before returning to the bass section after Welsh Area contest.”
