Berryman to make Cornish link with Tongwynlais

The vastly experienced John Berryman is to make a Cornish link to Tongwynlais Temperance as they seek to regain Welsh Regional title.

John Berryman in action

Tongwynlais Temperance Band has announced that they will be teaming up with conductor John Berryman for their attempt to regain the Welsh Regional Championship Trophy.

The former Virtuosi GUS MD, will join resident conductor Christopher Bond to prepare the 2013 champion lead up to the contest in just over two weeks time in Swansea.

Camborne

The Cornish duo both originally from Camborne, started their musical careers aged eight with the highly successful Camborne Youth Band — but over half a century apart!

Thrilled

John told 4BR: "I’m thrilled to be working with Christopher for the Welsh Area with Tongwynlais.

I have been hugely impressed by the band's standard and particularly impressed with the high quality soloists they have around the stands.

I’m looking forward to the coming fortnight and working on this wonderful test-piece."

The band, who started their contesting season with a runner-up finish at the Welsh Open Entertainment contest last month, is also delighted to welcome John to their part of South Wales.

Great privilege

Chairman Gareth Hann added: “It’s a great privilege to have John and his wealth of experience on board with us, and to watch his musicality spread through the band.

I know that he and Christopher will be a great combination in the run up to the Regional Championships."
