Grimethorpe

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the signing of Tommy Tynan on BBb tuba.

The 18 year old from Saddleworth is currently Principal BBb Tuba with the National Youth Band of Great Britain, a position he has held for almost two years. He joins from Marsden Band.

Progress

Grimethorpe Director of Music Dr Robert Childs told 4BR: “I’ve closely watched Tommy’s progress through the NYBBGB and in doing a number of rehearsals and several concerts with us at Grimethorpe.

I’m sure he is good enough and has the potential to become a truly great BBb tuba player.”

Great band

Tommy himself added: “It’s an honour to be asked to play for this great band under the baton of Dr Childs. My thanks go to Marsden and especially Glyn Williams for all their support and help.

However, the chance to play in the same section as legendary tuba soloist Shaun Crowther was too big an opportunity to turn down.”
