Brighouse & Rastrick has continued its worldwide recruitment policy by announcing the appointment of New Zealander Kyle Lawson as their new principal cornet.

Cornet Champion

The Geneva International Performance artist is the 2015 Australian and New Zealand 'Cornet Champion' — winning the latter award against thirteen top southern hemisphere rivals in Rotorua earlier this month.

He will take up the role with immediate effect and will make his debut contesting appearance at the British Open Championship in Birmingham in September alongside recently appointed solo euphonium Glenn Van Looy from Belgium.

Kyle was mentored by the highly respected New Zealand cornet player Kevin Jarrett and since 2010 has been a recipient of the Dame Adrienne Stewart Performance Bursary.

Musician of the Year

For the past four years Kyle has been a member of the New Zealand Army Band and latterly of the highly successful Woolston Brass in Christchurch. In 2014 he won the inaugural 'New Zealand Young Brass Musician of the Year' award.

It's an absolute pleasure to welcome Kyle — a young and enormously talented performer, to this key position with Brighouse & Rastrick BandB&R President Paul Beaumont

Welcome

B&R President Paul Beaumont told 4BR: "It's an absolute pleasure to welcome Kyle — a young and enormously talented performer, to this key position with Brighouse & Rastrick Band.

On behalf of the band I would also like to express our sincere thanks to Leon Renilson who stepped in as guest principal with us earlier in the year and has done an outstanding job."
