Grimethorpe Tour: Day 1

23 hours flying time — and its straight to the studios for Dr Robert Childs and the band as Australia welcomes the Brass in Concert champions.

Brisbane

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has touched down in Australia after completing their marathon 23 hour journey from Manchester to Brisbane — with the band already looking forward to their first concert appearance at the QPAC Concert Hall on Thursday evening.

Fan club

"It was a very long trip,"Tour Manager Craig Roberts told 4BR. "But I think it was made so much more relaxing thanks to the superb hospitality shown to us by Emirates Airlines. I think we have already got a new fan club with the brilliant cabin crew."

The band made a short stop off in Dubai after seven hours flying before completing a further 16 hours in the air prior to touching down in Brisbane just after midnight local time.

Radio times

However, there was no time for a lazy morning for MD Dr Robert Childs and some of the players, who had to make it to the local ABC Radio studios just after breakfast to be interviewed live on air for features on the ABC Classic FM and ABC Brisbane Drive programmes.

As Bob Childs told 4BR; "As you can see from the picture taken from our hotel, Brisbane is a wonderful city and we are all looking forward to the concert on Thursday night.

The welcome we enjoyed as soon as we got here was fantastic and the interest in our visit is incredible.

We will have time relax later today before we rehearse for the opening concert of what promises to be a memorable tour."
