One of the world's great trumpet players will be making a welcome appearance in London next week to give a masterclass and to conduct at the Royal College of Music.

Masterclass

Hakan Hardenberger will lead a masterclass with trumpeters from the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Royal Northern College of Music on Thursday 21st January (Tickets: £5.00) as well as conducting the Royal College of Music brass players in a performance of Janacek's 'Sinfonietta' on Friday 22nd January (Tickets: £5.00 — £8.00).

The events form part of the Philharmonia's 'The Trumpet Shall Sound' series.

Colossus

Described as the 'colossus of the trumpet' by 'The Guardian' newspaper and '...the best trumpet player in the galaxy' by The Times, Hardenberger is rightly regarded as one of the greatest trumpet soloists in the world.

The Swede will lead a special public masterclass with three young stars of British trumpet playing from the RCM, Royal Academy of Music (RAM) and Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) on Thursday 21st.

Watch live

The students will work on a contemporary British trumpet concerto by composers associated with each institution: Mark-Anthony Turnage (RCM), Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (RAM) and Sir Harrison Birtwistle (RNCM).

For those who can't make it in person, the afternoon masterclass will be available to watch live online at: www.rcm.ac.uk/live
