Abbotts finds Peace with latest release

Carlton Main's renowned principal cornet has certainly found peace with her latest CD release.

Kirsty Abbotts

Carlton Main Frickley Colliery principal cornet Kirsty Abbotts has launched her latest CD — entitled, 'A Search for Peace'.

The eagerly anticipated release is accompanied by the band which she has led with such distinction over the years, and is conducted by Phillip McCann and Leigh Baker.

Dedication

The release features new and old repertoire from composers including Peter Graham, Peter Meechan and Leigh Baker, who has written 'Dedication' as a tribute to former player and librarian Kenny Ralph.

There are also new compositions from composer-in-residence Ben Hollings, and two works by Rebecca Lundberg, including the title-track 'A Search for Peace' which was specially commissioned by Kirsty for the CD.

Kirsty performs at the very pinnacle of cornet playing, so it was wonderful for Leigh Baker, Ben Hollings and Rebecca Lundberg amongst others to contribute to such a fine releasePhillip McCann

Appreciation

Former MD Phillip McCann was keen to stress his appreciation of Kirsty's playing as well as praising many of his current and former University of Huddersfield students who have also contributed to the release.

"The CD is a super showcase for some of our current and former alumni.

Kirsty performs at the very pinnacle of cornet playing, so it was wonderful for Leigh Baker, Ben Hollings and Rebecca Lundberg amongst others to contribute to such a fine release. Both Kirsty and Carlton Main Frickley epitomise what true brass banding is all about."
