Appeal goes out for Cornish musical cream

The annual appeal has gone out to find the next generation of Cornwall Youth Band players to work with the likes of Ian Porthouse and Paul Holland over the next year.

The Cornwall Youth Band has made its annual appeal to attract a new generation of players to its ranks.

The band will be starting its new season in September — with the first of eight monthly rehearsals and two residential courses that run until April.

Opportunity

Secretary Phillip Hunt told 4BR: "Each year there is plenty of opportunity for players to make new friends and enjoy the benefit of working with the excellent tutors as well as our guest conductors."

The band's Christmas Course will be led by Tredegar MD, Ian Porthouse, whilst the 2017 Easter Course will be headed by Flowers conductor Paul Holland, with guest soloist Paul Richards. Each residential course will last four days and will also see delegates work with an outstanding team of local tutors.

Talented musicians

Phillip added: "The chance to work closely with these well known and talented musicians can only improve the all round musicianship of the members as well as their parent bands."
