A winning combination as Kenny Pain joins Besses o' th' Barn — celebrating their win at the Rochdale contest last year.

Besses o' th' Barn Band has announced the signing of the experienced Kenny Pain as their new principal cornet.

The former Coldstream Guards trumpet player is no stranger to the banding world, having also played soprano for Milnrow Band, who he helped to a famous Grand Shield victory as well as qualify for both the British Open and National Finals.

No hesitation

He told 4BR: "After a short break from banding I was invited down to a rehearsal at Besses. With the atmosphere there, and under Simon Cowen's guidance as MD, I was sure I wanted to be part of the band's future and accepted the position without hesitation."

It's a real privilege to have Kenny take this role at Besses as it didn't take long to realise what a fabulous player we had in our midstBesses MD, Simon Cowen

Fabulous player

Besses MD Simon Cowen was delighted to welcome his new top-man. "It's a real privilege to have Kenny take this role at Besses as it didn't take long to realise what a fabulous player we had in our midst.

Kenny is an incredibly experienced player and his amazing playing pedigree will be of huge benefit to us as we begin our journey in the Second Section."
