The Foden's Youth and Junior Bands go from strength to strength thanks to the input of star players and and conductors.

Fresh from their recent second rehearsal weekend together, the Foden's Youth and Junior Bands are once again looking forward to an exciting year of music making.

Full day

The new academic season started for the Youth Band at Sandbach School where 60 young brass and percussion players met to take part in seating auditions, full band and sectional rehearsals, masterclasses and team building sessions led by the team of Foden's conductors and tutors.

There was also time to help produce a cracking video presentation which outlined the reasons why the youngsters come along and enjoy playing with the band.

Music

With the objective of giving the opportunity to perform new works as well as original brass band repertoire, the weekend saw them tackle a new composition entitled, 'Charged' by student composer Ben Smith as well as major pieces by Wilfred Heaton and Peter Graham.

The weekend was rounded off with a concert given alongside invited guests, Lions Youth Brass and Macclesfield Youth Band, with a large audience filling the Sandbach School sports hall to enjoy the three bands on fine form.

The Youth Band also began preparations for a concert in November which will feature a massed performance of Andrew Stevenson's 'Tales of Myths & Legends' alongside Foden's Band.

Foden's Junior Band

Meanwhile, at Lymm High School in Warrington, the Foden's Junior Band met to begin their second year of music making together.

Led by the inspirational Anna Hughes-Williams, the band provides monthly opportunities for younger and less experienced players to join the Foden's family.

I know I'm not alone when I say it was another great delight for all at Foden's to be able to enthuse the next generation of brass and percussion playersFounder and co-ordinator Ian Raisbeck

Enthuse

Commenting on the successful start, founder and co-ordinator Ian Raisbeck told 4BR: "I know I'm not alone when I say it was another great delight for all at Foden's to be able to enthuse the next generation of brass and percussion players.

We are very fortunate that Besson, RNCM, Love Music Trust and Accent Music Hub generously support us in these ventures. Without it we would not be able to offer these opportunities to young musicians.'
Foden's Youth and Junior Bands remain open to new applicants.
